Why iPad BYOD

Cheltenham Primary School introduced a Bring Your Own Device iPad Program (BYOD) for Year 5/6s in 2015. Over the past few years, we have been trialing the use of iPads to support our curriculum. The iPad is an excellent tool for personalising learning and accessing contemporary resources to support student learning through an engaging and familiar medium. The iPad has an ever increasing number of intuitive applications of high quality which are ideally suited to students, that cater to a wide range of learning abilities and styles.

As a 21st Century Learning Community, Cheltenham Primary School is committed to leading change with students and their families. We believed the next step for our school was a specific 1:1 program for our Year 4, 5 and 6 students. We are continuously seeing the benefits that the 1:1 program can bring to broadening student learning, digital competencies, increased student choice and the personalisation of learning for our students.

It is important that you understand that the iPad does not replace traditional pen and paper activities. We still believe there is a place for traditional texts and writing skills today and in the future. The iPad is used during certain times in the day and when needed to support student learning. Students will still be interacting with each other face-to-face during class times.
